Caroline M Apovian MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine; Director of the Center for Nutrition and Weight Management and Co-director of the Nutrition Support Service at Boston Medical Center. She is also Director of Clinical Research for the Obesity Research Center at Boston Medical Center.
Dr Apovian is also a principal investigator for the Centers for Obesity Research and Education (C.O.R.E) in New England. She has been an active member of the Boston Obesity Research Nutrition Center (BONRC) for over four years.
She served as Medical Director of the Program for Weight Management, Division of the Metabolic Support Service, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School from 1998 to 2000, and was Director of Weight Management and Nutritional Medicine at the Spence Centers for Women’s Health from 1996 to 2000. Prior to moving to Boston, she was the Director of the High Risk Obesity Clinic and the Director of the Nutrition Support Fellowship Program at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.
She received her M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1985. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 1988, where she was also a Fellow in Nutrition Support from 1989 to 1990.
Dr. Apovian has recently received the American Society of Clinical Nutrition Physician Nutrition Specialist Award for her work in providing nutrition education to medical students, residents, and faculty at the Boston University School of Medicine.
