Bowman BA, Russell RM. Present knowledge in nutrition . 8 th ed. Washington, DC: ILSI Press, 2001. A general reference resource covering most aspects of human nutrition, with chapters mainly emphasizing individual nutrients.
Sardesai VM. Introduction to Clinical Nutrition. New York: Marcel Dekker, 2003. A general clinical nutrition textbook and reference source for health professionals. Sections include nutritional biology and biochemistry, nutrition through the life cycle, nutrition in specific disorders, and special topics such as toxicants, vegetarianism, nutraceuticals, and dietary supplements.

Heimburger DC, Ard JD. Handbook of clinical nutrition. 4 th ed. Philadelphia: Mosby Elsevier, 2006. A 600-page spiral-bound pocket-sized handbook covering all aspects of clinical nutrition. Useful as a basic text and as a bedside reference manual.

Gottschlich MM, ed. The Science and Practice of Nutrition Support: A Case-Based Core Curriculum. Dubuque, IA: Kendall/Hunt Pub Co. A case-based resource on nutritional support, available through the ASPEN website , (http://www.clinnutr.org). Includes a CD-ROM containing the entire text.

Hark L, Morrison G. Medical Nutrition and Disease. 3 rd ed. Malden, MA: Blackwell Science, 2003. An integrated, clinical case-based reference text that covers fundamentals related to diagnosis and treatment of nutrition disorders. Contains case studies. The text is particularly designed for medical students and physicians without specific prior training in nutrition, but is also useful for physicians with prior experience and training in nutrition sciences.
